What Is Kinesiology And What Can Somebody Do With A Degree In It?

My daughter is doing college application and she put down kinesiology down as her number one major. What is it and how can somebody make an impact on the world with kinesiology? I always asked her to get into law or dentisry, but she is so harded.

Kinesiology is the study of the body movement of humans (physical, mechanical, etc.)
It’s a good major for someone who wants to be a physical education teacher, a physical therapist, a chiropractor, a sports coach, or a fitness trainer. It can also provide the undergraduate training for a number of graduate degrees in things like sports medicine, nursing, etc.
My sister-in-law studied this, and is currently going to school to be a chiropractor.

Good for you for looking out for her best interests. You have good reason to! This degree offers little employment options. Many schools will lead students to believe that the opportunities are endless, but the profession of kinesiology is simply not regulated as a profession. I have several friends from college who have studied kinesiology. Only one of these friends of mine found work in this field. She is earning $10/ hr developing workouts for a sports team. Another friend who studied this is working as a receptionist at a hospital. A third friend returned for a master’s in this area, thinking it would increase his employment options. This man is now working at Target as a sporting goods department manager. A fourth friend of mine who studied this is returning for a degree in nursing. I could go on and on.
If she does choose this route, she could take additional classes and use it as a pre-professional degree for physical therapy, or an other area of medicine. She could also take education classes and become certified as a gym teacher. She could also look into managing a fitness center with this degree.
