Is Kinesiology a good major to get into med school?

I’m thinking of taking Kinesiology because I’m interested in going into Physical Therapy (a DPT program) after I graduate, but I’m a Freshman and I may change my mind and want to go to med school. I don’t wanna have to change my major when I’m 2-3 years into college, so I’m wondering if this is a good way to get into med school. This major requires a lot of biology courses and one chemistry/lab course.

The problem with using kinesiology as a pre-med track is that the types of biology and chemistry required for kinesiology are usually NOT the ones acceptable for medical school admissions (however they should be acceptable for PA and nursing programs).

You will need to talk to your college counselor to see if you can take the pre-med track bio, chem, physics and math as course substitutions towards the kinesiology major. Otherwise, you will have to do DOUBLE the work.

Just like PT, you can have any major for med school…what is important is the actual courses you take. Pre-med will take a little more advanced bio and chem than what is required for PT school.
